U.S. New Embassy Compound

LERA was the structural engineer for this new 390,500-sf (36,275-sm) diplomatic facility composed of six independent buildings: three separate Compound Access Control (CAC) buildings; the Support Annex (SPX) and Utility (UTL) Building; the New Office Building (NOB); and a 5-story below-grade visitor parking garage beneath the main arrival plaza.

Rising to 143 ft (43.5 m), the 8-story NOB incorporates various structural systems to meet the design and security requirements of the project, while the main building entrance features a 4-story, cantilevered reinforced concrete structure with the lobby entrance nestled between five sloping, architecturally exposed concrete columns. The project also included the re-grading and construction of stepped landscaping terraces to mitigate a 75-ft (23-m) elevation grade change on the sloping site. The program also includes landscaped terraces with an outdoor pool, a fitness center and a basketball court.
