Staten Island Courthouse
LERA was the structural engineer for a 184,000-sf (17,100sm) courthouse building and memorial plaza. The new courthouse consolidates and augments the functions of existing judicial institutions housed in surrounding buildings, becoming an anchor point for the existing complex. Designed to achieve a LEED Gold rating, the new courthouse features a curtainwall with architecturally exposed steel detailing, distinctive copper cladding and four green roofs.
LERA's scope of work included the performance of several studies during the conceptual phase in order to assess structural systems and material types. To develop an optimal structural system, designs were assessed for economy and constructability, as well as adherence to agency guidelines.
