LERA Expands Presence in China, Opens New Office in Hong Kong
Leslie E. Robertson Associates (LERA), a world-class, award-winning structural engineering consulting firm based in New York, has opened a new office in Hong Kong. The move is led by Wing-Pin (Winnie) Kwan, Ph.D., P.E., Partner at LERA and Director of the Hong Kong branch office.
As a forerunner among design firms, LERA has been working in China since 1977. LERA is the structural engineer for many iconic buildings in the Far East and all over the world, including the 70-story Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, the 492-m Shanghai World Financial Center in China, the 555-m Lotte World Tower in Seoul, Korea (whose structure was topped-out in April 2016) and the 630-m Merdeka PNB118 building in Kuala Lumpur, which is currently under construction. The Bank of China Tower was recently awarded the 2016 Legacy Award Honorable Distinction from the CITAB-CTBUH China Tall Building Awards Program, which recognizes projects that have demonstrated value and successful performance over ten years or more.
“The Bank of China Tower is what inspired me to become a structural engineer,” Ms. Kwan remarked. “Working at LERA for these past 16 years has truly been a privilege. I am grateful to have apprenticed under the creators of this remarkable building and to have taken part in the design of many other remarkable structures around the world. After spearheading the establishment and development of LERA’s office in Shanghai in 2011, I am honored to return to my home town of Hong Kong to start this new chapter in LERA’s history.”
SawTeen See, P.E., C.E., Distinguished M.ASCE, M. Eng., LERA’s Managing Partner, added: “Having a permanent presence in Hong Kong will open more doors for LERA and will help us to better serve our clients in Asia.”
