Oberoi International School I & II
LERA provided complete structural services for this new 500,000-sf (152,400-sm) school, located in the Andheri district of Mumbai. The Oberoi International School II serves students from nursery school level all the way to Grade 12. The facility contains a 400-seat auditorium, an Olympic-size race track and short course pool on the roof, laboratories, a multi-purpose hall, a basketball court, a multipurpose play area for lawn tennis and soccer and performance/studio spaces for arts, theater and music. The school for nursery and kindergarten students is located on a separate floor, and features a kids pool, a soft play area, a sand pit, a jungle gym and a café. Other amenities include a multi-level international café and library and an outdoor teaching garden.
The structural system consists of a primarily concrete structure, and features a structural steel transfer truss that enables the Ground Level auditorium to be column-free. An innovative post-tensioned concrete roof slab spans 78 ft (24 m) over the multipurpose hall. Overall, the building boasts a large footprint with a relatively small core, efficiently designed for the lateral system by integrating structural requirements with architectural elements.
LERA also completed schematic design for the Oberoi International School I, also located in Mumbai.
