Almaty International Medical Center

The Almaty International Medical Center (AIMC) puts forth an exciting new model of care for Kazakhstan’s evolving healthcare market. The 296,000-sf (27,500-sm) AIMC aims to become the first local private hospital to offer state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient services at five- and six-star levels. Providing a full continuum of healthcare services at the highest international standards, it is hoped that AIMC can also become a catalyst for change in the country’s healthcare system. To mitigate the high earthquake risk of Almaty, the building is to be seismically base isolated.

Roughly divided into three blocks with a diverse program, the building is “stepped” at the rear, offering remarkable landscape and mountain views, and aligned on the city-facing facade along a major avenue. High-volume outpatient floors take up a majority of the large base, while surgical and medical care facilities take up the middle portion and inpatient units occupy the smaller, uppermost floors. Landscaped terraces are offered for each “step,” creating a calm, lush environment for employees and patients alike.
